Reading Notes: (extra credit) Maya's Palace

Image
To begin, I discovered a great deal about epics when I took to some research on the wikipedia trail assignment. I tried to be mindful of that in my reading. This story involves Mayasura upholding his promise for Pandavas which was to build a magnificent palace. Since, Palace of Illusions piggy backs off of this story from a different point of view, I have left a  link. If you get the chance to look into that, its a good read. And if you've read most of my writings, you know that I really enjoy stories that are told from different perspectives. Moreover, the original story states that he was the architect of demons, which I thought was interning with respect to learning that epics always have ties to good and evil divinities. Ironically, the palace was said to be comparable to most heavenly of places. The contrast is obvious and offers its ties to traditional epic characteristics. The story goes on in a tale of King Duryodhana mistaking the house's beautiful crystal structure a...

Wikipedia Trail. Epics

Ramayana : We have been reading about this for some time now, so this one only seemed appropriate. I learned that it was traditionally ascribed in Hindu. It also belongs to the same genre as the Mahabharata, which we have just started reading. Epic Poems : I fell into this rabbit hole of wikipedia and I can't stop! I learned that epic poems "usually concern a serious subject containing details of heroic deeds significant to a culture. The odyssey is one of the most notable epics cited in the text. Mahabharata : We have just began reading this in class. It is a narrative of the Kureksetra War. Its origins fall between the 8th and 9th centuries of BC times. In addition, it is the longest epic poem known!! Odyssey : How could I not include this famous gem? In the text it can be learned that this epic is attributed to Homer and it is of greek origin. Furthermore, it begins ten years after the trojan war. And just a little fun fact, there have been several modern films based ...

Review: Week 6

My favorite thing from the announcements this week is the extra credit! I haven't fallen to far behind. But I have 3 exams this week that I have had to prepare for and this set me back slightly!                                                                                                                       My actual attitude

Famous Last Words: Week 6

Image
Last week was a very productive week for in this class. I managed to do a lot of writing and it really gave me the chance to decompress. However, this week has been really hectic. In light of the fact that I have 3 exams during the upcoming week, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thus, I have had to get all of my ducks in a row this week to prepared. This has prevented from doing a lot of the writing that I wanted to do in epics. But I did get the chance to write about the stories in this week’s reading, which I really enjoyed. This made it much easier to write a blog post about on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the day of the second reading, I was unable to complete this task. But I have taken advantage of the extra credit reading to account for this. This assignment is simply too enjoyable for me to not go ahead and get points for! In addition, I think I have a great new spot for my writing in this course. It's where I have done my best work. While studying for histo...

Growth Mindset: Article to Develop Growth Mindset

Image
Article:  25 Simple Ways to Develop a Growth Mindset As mentioned in the article title, this article was written about how to develop a growth mindset. The methods listed in the passage are based on Carol Dwecks suggestion that students with a fixed mindset will reject learning if it means not being wrong. Thus, she promotes the growth mindset that we had read about earlier in the semester. Personally, I feel the first method addressed is the most important and essential to the growth mindset approach. It says that "acknowledge and embrace imperfections." She cites that avoiding ones shortcomings will result in an everlasting obstacle that will never be overcame. Moreover, I feel this validates a pre-existing belief of mine. However, one thing that I didn't ever care to ponder was how helpful it would be to stop seeking approval. Dweck claims that, "when your prioritize approval over learning, you make a large sacrifice for your  learning potential. "Furthermo...

Article:  Want to be Happier? Science Says Do These 11 Things Everyday This is article is essentially about 11 simple things that you can do everyday to promote feeling the best that you can. Although theses 11 activities may seem intuitive, I feel like most people forget to make the most of these things. However, I didn't know that there ha been studies to suggest that spending time with friends and family can improve your overall happiness. Another example of something that can make you happier was planning a trip. This spiked my curiosity. Thus, I followed the linked listed and learned a lot more How Vacation Affect Your Happiness .                                   ...

Tech Tip: Dashboard

I have always been really fond on the new platform since we transitioned from D2L. Canvas dashboard makes everything show much more accessible. I have configured my dashboard to utilize a to-do list and an upcoming section. Last, I can't think of  anything new that I would like to see. But if something new comes up, I am hopeful to learn about it. I am sure it will be super helpful. Canvas is great!

Reading Notes: Kunti and Her Son

Image
I decided to narrow my scope to the story of Kunti and her son. This story feels sort of like a prequel as  Kunti, who will become the wife of King Pandu, has a son. This is even mentioned in the introduction. Karna, the son, in my opinion is not presented as one of the most complex figures in the story as he will soon become. I can appreciates this since the beginning of the story seems to really focus in on his mother. To add to this, Karna was born in secret. I feel that this adds to contrast to his ultimate role in the stories. However, the story does foreshadow that he had the eyes of a lion and shoulders of a bull. However, even just as a baby he is already seen as such as blessing by his finder after he is floated up the stream by his mother. I really enjoyed this type of foreshadowing, preceded by the in-depth humility of the mother.                                      ...
