Famous Last Words: Week 9


For the most part, I haven’t had the opportunity to do much of this week’s assignments. I have had several previous engagements to come up this week including an interview for med school. But fortunately, I think that I will still have time to complete an okay amount of my assignments now that I am done with the most taxing scheduled events. On that note, I did get a chance to read some more of my classmate’s stories and projects. I thought it would be productive to take some time to engage in what my classmates have done. I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from them and I think that I have some good ideas for my project now that I have had the chance to see other’s. So, they have all been good an I can’t wait to get back into it and write my own. Last time, I didn’t see any other projects before starting my own, so hopefully this will make my next one even better. Moreover, I have thought a lot about the revisions that I made to my last story that I really liked. I feel my next story will be magnitudes better. Lastly, my other classes are going as well as 5000 level biology courses can go. I am learning a great deal and I feel that I am doing a good job of balancing all my courses while fighting off any senioritis! I have an exam coming up on Wednesday in histology, but I feel prepared for it. I am going to make sure to complete the assigned work for this course earlier than I normally would to give myself as much time as possible right before the exam. In addition, I have an exam in statistics on Monday. But once again, I think it will go well since I have prepared myself last week. But I am ready to get the ball rolling in all my courses again!

    Congratulations on your med school interview! That is so exciting. It is great that this class allows us to do things early, or complete some extra credit if you do them late. It seems like you have had a busy couple of weeks. I am glad you are feeling confident in balancing all your classes. Good luck!

For this week's Learning Challenge, I read an article about sleeping. The article is entitled Data Reveals How Some College Students Sleep . The article was written with the interest of how sleeping conditions may affect learning. In essence, the study followed the sleeping habits of college students aged from 18-22 and tracked certain conditions. One things they found was students aren't that sleep deprived. The average student in this study clocked in 7 hours and 3 minutes of rest a night. I can honestly say that this was something that was confirmed for me. And if you've ever lived in a fraternity, you would have a really hard time believing it was shy of that number. Something that I learned from this study was that women go to bed and wake up earlier than men. Although, this makes a lot of sense. The two are probably correlated. Feedback Strategies

I really appreciated both articles that I read. The “Differencebetween Praise and Feedback” article was really interesting. I feel like it tackled the issue of parents simply throwing blind compliments at children and instead taking the time to give context their comments. The main takeaway was become more involved and interactive with children. This could be more beneficial than vague praise statements. The other article I read was “Presence Not Praise.” It dealt with the issue of praise possibly being toxic, especially if the praise was simply directed toward accomplishment and not toward the effort. To answer to the questions from the post, I always try to give feedback every time I get the chance, because I know how much I appreciate feedback. Reading Notes: Rama Section C

I really enjoyed this telling of Rama in Rama’s quest. I still think that Rama’s heart is in the right place, but I don’t know how I feel about his fight first and ask questions later attitude. In addition, I really enjoy re-telling stories where both parties get to make their case. Usually, not everything is as it seems with the title of villain and hero and/or hero is assigned. Thus, I would want to tell a story Rama, and his brother who knows magic for instance, are just about to kill an ogre when suddenly, the ogre gets to speak his peace. This could be the case for many of the monsters who would be slain by Rama and company. As the story unfolds, it could turn out that these monsters are simply the way that they are due to a higher power than all of them combined. Thus, they are not truly evil, they are just taking orders. As Rama continuously finds this to be case he learns to listen and be better leader. He begins to work with the monster...
