Famous Last Word: Review Week


Overall this should have been a hectic week I am going to Dallas for OU/Texas, as are many of us. However, I have tried hard to get my ducks in a row before hand. (That’s the kind of insight being a senior will give you!!) I have made sure to get some extra studying in for my courses starting early this week. It was extra encouraging that I made high A’s in all the exams that I got back from last week. Moreover, even though this was an easy week I did my best to make good on my promise I made in my last “famous last words” assignment of completing ALL the week’s assignments. But I have also taken a step further, since I am hopeful to complete all the extra credit as well. This isn’t hard since I really enjoy it anyway. I did my best writing for this course on Monday. On this day, I completed the assignments listed for Tuesday through Thursday, then I had some time read some of the stories that my classmates posted. I thought all the ones I read were very good. However, I waited until Wednesday to post comments. I was in more of “chattier” mood then. I hope the feedback that I left was productive and my classmates can make good use of them, since that was their intended purpose. On the same, I finally got the chance to revise my portfolio story. Overall, I thought the comments that Professor Gibbs left were very useful and helped my story a great deal. So, if you’re reading this and you’ve already read my story, I am suggesting another read if you have the time. On my next story, I will be mindful of the corrections and tactics that she assisted me with. Hopefully, this will take my story writing skills to another level, but either I really enjoyed myself.

For this week's Learning Challenge, I read an article about sleeping. The article is entitled Data Reveals How Some College Students Sleep . The article was written with the interest of how sleeping conditions may affect learning. In essence, the study followed the sleeping habits of college students aged from 18-22 and tracked certain conditions. One things they found was students aren't that sleep deprived. The average student in this study clocked in 7 hours and 3 minutes of rest a night. I can honestly say that this was something that was confirmed for me. And if you've ever lived in a fraternity, you would have a really hard time believing it was shy of that number. Something that I learned from this study was that women go to bed and wake up earlier than men. Although, this makes a lot of sense. The two are probably correlated. Feedback Strategies

I really appreciated both articles that I read. The “Differencebetween Praise and Feedback” article was really interesting. I feel like it tackled the issue of parents simply throwing blind compliments at children and instead taking the time to give context their comments. The main takeaway was become more involved and interactive with children. This could be more beneficial than vague praise statements. The other article I read was “Presence Not Praise.” It dealt with the issue of praise possibly being toxic, especially if the praise was simply directed toward accomplishment and not toward the effort. To answer to the questions from the post, I always try to give feedback every time I get the chance, because I know how much I appreciate feedback. Reading Notes: Rama Section C

I really enjoyed this telling of Rama in Rama’s quest. I still think that Rama’s heart is in the right place, but I don’t know how I feel about his fight first and ask questions later attitude. In addition, I really enjoy re-telling stories where both parties get to make their case. Usually, not everything is as it seems with the title of villain and hero and/or hero is assigned. Thus, I would want to tell a story Rama, and his brother who knows magic for instance, are just about to kill an ogre when suddenly, the ogre gets to speak his peace. This could be the case for many of the monsters who would be slain by Rama and company. As the story unfolds, it could turn out that these monsters are simply the way that they are due to a higher power than all of them combined. Thus, they are not truly evil, they are just taking orders. As Rama continuously finds this to be case he learns to listen and be better leader. He begins to work with the monster...
