Feedback Thoughts

I really enjoyed the articles that I selected. The first one that I read had to do with how to take criticism. It didn’t gloss over the fact that feedback or criticism can make you feel awkward or uncomfortable. However, the approach of this article had to do with describing that feeling this way is necessary for growth, which I couldn’t agree more with. Furthermore, most criticism is good criticism if you have the appropriate attitude. Using the correct mindset can help you turn any awkward situation into a learning experience.

Criticism

The next article describes some common practices that are detrimental to people who have just made a mistake. Essentially, life is hard enough and if you’re a person with goals, making these mistakes that are listed are only going to make it harder. This article highlights how common it is for people to shoot themselves in the foot and how important it is to refrain from doing so. This means not second-guessing yourself, believing in self-doubt and cursing the future (which I believe everyone is guilty of).

I feel that criticism is obviously best if it meant to be constructive. However, I think that all feedback is an opportunity to grow. An individual only has one vantage point of themselves. Thus, feedback is an invaluable tool. For those who promote their own self growth, feedback is perhaps the most useful tool. Of course, as described in the articles, an appropriate mindset is essential to using feedback in your favor. Personally, I have received the best criticism in office hours during college. I feel like it is more genuine in person. Feedback on paper when you've missed an open response question always feels insincere and cold.
