Topic Brainstorm

                                                        (ALL LINKS IN THE CAPTIONS)

THE GODS, DEVAS: This topic really catches my intrigue from the introduction alone. I have always been interested in stories about gods/goddesses. And I find that I can tell much better stories if I am interested in the characteristics of the cast. Furthermore, I had a literature teacher in high school who loved stories about gods/goddesses. So while I don’t claim to know much about the topic, I have certainly had some exposure. From the Wikipedia Page listed, I learned that “Deva” means “heavenly or divine.” I also learned that each of the Devas have a predisposed specialty, if you will, as far as their supernatural abilities go. Moreover, I can tell that I will have a lot of fun telling stories about the god/goddesses, possibly applying some sort of conflicting jurisdiction of power because that’s always fun.

Geography of the Ramayana: Once again, this tugs at my interest. I really enjoy geography (i.e. I LOVE TRAVELING!). But whether it be mythical or legitimate, I find myself really interested in the topic. Further, I can see myself telling a story where a sacred landscape is perhaps jeopardized or invaded. However, perhaps the invaders underestimate the secrets of the sacred land. Either way, the possibilities are endless with this prompt and I think it will give me a lot of opportunity to tell a great story.

TEMPLES: I hate to keep going on about my interests! But I fell that I could be creative with this prompt because I have always been interested in it. However, I am not previously familiar with of the temples or architecture of India, with maybe the exception of the Taj Mahal which I find to be astounding. Furthermore, after reading up on some of the resources listed, I would love to learn more about the architecture in India. Getting back a possible story, I can see myself telling a tale involving an elaborate temple with many layers. I find that something so grand can serve as a character even if it is an object, since it probably effects the lives of all the people who live in its vicinity. This will especially be the case if it is a place of worship.

EPIC BATTLES: Reading this one made me laugh, so I had to choose it. If I write about a battle scene it will definitely include monkeys or bears. In addition, I feel like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are of great importance to the course so I wanted to have something with that in the name. Moreover, I am completely unfamiliar with these, but I am hopeful to learn. The research tip suggested reading up on battle scenes so I followed the wiki sites and learned a little more about the types of weaponry utilized. But I might throw in a few of my own as well.
